Larkin University

Larkin University Quick Facts

Duration: 3-4 Years Courses: 63 Faculty: 27
Est. Applications: 310 Acceptance Rate: 26% Est. Class Size: 80

Program Description

Larkin University College of Pharmacy is the first year-round, three-year, block-program in the State of Florida!

Founded in 2013, Larkin University is a private, not-for-profit university. LU is affiliated with Larkin Health Systems but is a separate Educational Institution. The primary goal of the College is to promote and foster pharmacy education to create compassionate and knowledgeable pharmacists who will be prepared to pursue a multitude of career options including post-graduate education. Although students complete their Doctor of Pharmacy in three years, as opposed to the more traditional four years, due to the design of the curriculum, students have approximately 25% more contact time than traditional programs!

The block curriculum allows students to:

  • Learn in a focused format so students can concentrate on one major topic at a time.
  • Several courses are taught longitudinally over the year in order to apply the knowledge that has been learned within each block.
  • In a typical day, the class meets with their faculty, engages in didactic teaching, and participates in active learning activities to allow the substantial amount of information learned in pharmacy school to be applied regularly, limiting the need for excessive memorization.

LU College of Pharmacy is affiliated with many teaching hospitals and clinics for pharmacy students throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties so students will not have to travel for third-year rotations unless they wish to do so.

When are acceptance letters mailed to regular applicants?
Acceptance letters are typically e-mailed within 72 hours after the interview. If a student qualifies for a scholarship, a scholarship offer letter will be included in the email. All students will also receive a Fellowship Award application. Fellowship awards are one year financial awards. We offer GPA based scholarships of 5, 10, or 15%, and a 10% scholarship for students who have an 80th composite percentile score or higher on the PCAT. These scholarships are renewed each trimester as long as the student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA, a trimester GPA of 3.0, and does not receive a grade less than a C in any course.
When is the response to the acceptance offer due? LECOM typically sets the official matriculation dates for each entering class in the spring before matriculation, so the above date may be subject to change.

Marshall B. Ketchum University

Marshall B. Ketchum University Quick Facts

Duration: 4 Years Courses: 48 Faculty: 24
Est. Applications: 434 Acceptance Rate: 12% Est. Class Size: 52

Program Description

In 1904, Marshall B. Ketchum, MD, applied his training in pharmacy and ophthalmology to start a college that would eventually become Marshall B. Ketchum University. With well over 100 years of experience training health care providers, MBKU has both the knowledge and resources to continue providing a world-class educational experience.

When the university decided to start a pharmacy program, we did so with the future of health care in mind. It was imperative that the curriculum be setup in a way that graduates would be eligible to work as advanced practice pharmacists and work alongside future clinicians from other healthcare disciplines.

With approximately 52 seats per class, students will have substantial access to faculty, administration and each other. This access allows for consistent collaboration in learning and scholarship that will prove to enhance student success in the program and beyond. Additionally, a small class size allows students to customize their educational experience and to gives them the best opportunity to pursue their career goals.
