The Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) offers Virginia’s only three-year Doctor of Pharmacy Program.
ACP’s mission is to prepare pharmacists to provide excellent patient-centered pharmaceutical care and systems management to meet 21st-century healthcare challenges, with a focus on meeting the needs of rural underserved populations. Through active participation in community health education and rural outreach clinics, students endeavor to improve the quality of life of the underserved members of their communities. ACP strives to provide the highest standards of academic excellence and professionalism and instill in students a sense of social responsibility, professional collaboration and a commitment to lifelong learning.

General Information
Appalachian College of Pharmacy requires three letters of recommendation. Please follow the PharmCAS instructions for submitting letters of recommendation. Applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation from each of the following:

Note: ACP does not accept evaluations from friends, family members, clergy, co-workers, or politicians.

Selected candidates attend on-campus interviews. Candidates are interviewed by a two person panel (typically one ACP faculty member and one pharmacist/preceptor). A panel of two students also interview the candidates. Assessment is based on the candidate’s oral communication skills, motivation, compassion, professionalism, leadership, and team skills. A writing sample is collected. Video conference interviews may be offered to applicants living in a foreign country.

The School of Pharmacy’s 3-calendar year Pharm.D. program is designed with two interwoven and complementary components: didactic and experiential, with the experiential learning component occurring throughout the entire curriculum. Students progress through the program in cohorts, using a modified block schedule (studying one course at a time) and mastering the subject material before moving to the next course. This approach has a proven record of increasing students’ ability to master the didactic material and provides students with a rich experiential education.
