Program Description

The Medical University of South Carolina has been producing high-quality pharmacy practitioners since 1882. MUSC provides a premier pharmacy education featuring innovative, interprofessional learning opportunities at South Carolina’s only full-range comprehensive academic health center. In 2018, the College ranked first in the nation in the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists Phase I Residency Match with a 91% success rate.

The College maintains three research centers, the S.C. Drug Discovery Core, and offers cutting-edge instruction in the pharmaceutical sciences with research opportunities in active laboratories. Nationally-recognized clinical pharmacists use the unique learning opportunities, practice experience, and active learning made possible by an academic medical center.

Prerequisite Coursework Policies

Online coursework: Accepted for all prerequisite courses. The MUSC College of Pharmacy prefers in-person labs rather than online, but we will accept online labs.

Pass/fail grades: science courses with labs: Yes, but only if no letter grade option available; science courses without labs: Yes, but only if no letter grade option available; non-science courses: Yes, but only if no letter grade option available.

Completion timing: Applicants must successfully complete all course prerequisites by the end of summer 2027 term, prior to enrollment in fall 2027.

Letter of Recommendation Requirements

Three (3) evaluations (letters of reference) are required.

Three reference forms are required and accessed through the PharmCAS application. An optional fourth letter of reference may be provided. We recommend that an applicant request these from individuals that can best speak on behalf of the candidate’s work ethic, academic ability, and accomplishments.

Interview Information

Interview Format: Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI)

Online interview option: Yes

Interviews are by invitation only. Our on-site interviews include an overview presentation by the Associate Dean for Admissions & Student Affairs, a campus tour and student life presentation by student ambassadors, and multiple mini-interviews. Our virtual interviews include the same, with the exception of the campus tour. Students that choose to participate in a virtual interview will be given the option to tour campus at their convenience with a student ambassador.

In-person interviews are limited to the fall and we typically shift to virtual interviews later in the fall due to demand. Admission scholarships are limited so we encourage candidates to apply by October 1, 2026 for admission scholarship consideration.
