Program Description

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Wayne State University have developed a contemporary curriculum for the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program that allows interaction with patients and healthcare professionals throughout the four-year program. The Pharmacy program is located in one of the world’s leading urban research universities with the reputation of training excellent healthcare professionals. We educate future pharmacists to be highly competent health care practitioners, who effectively and safely provide patient-centered care with other health care team members in diverse settings, to be leaders within the profession and to be lifelong learners.  Our PharmD graduates are differentiated and sought after because of their clinical skills and ability to provide inter-professional, evidenced-based care that ensures optimal health of the patient and of the public. Specifically, our graduates are practice-ready, eager, willing to work, and prepared to work with diverse populations. Graduates of the Pharmacy professional program consistently score higher than the national and state averages on the NAPLEX (national licensing exam).

Completion timing: All science and math prerequisites — or their equivalent — must be completed by May 31 of the year for which you are applying. For instance, to begin the program in Fall 2027, you must complete these courses by May 31, 2027. All non science and general education prerequisites — or their equivalent — must be completed by August 31 of the year for which you are applying. For instance, to begin the program in Fall 2027, you must complete these courses by August 31, 2027.

Letter of Recommendation Requirements

Two (2) evaluations (letters of reference) are required.

Committee letters: Not Accepted

Applicants must submit two electronic letters of reference. One letter must be from a college or university instructor; the second can be from any professional reference such as another instructor or a supervisor at a work or volunteer site. Personal references are not accepted. Please note that while PharmCAS will allow applicants to submit up to four letters of references, the WSU PharmD program will only consider two letters for each candidate.

Interview Format: Individual applicants with two or more interviewers

Online interview option: Yes

Because of the highly competitive nature of admission to this program, successful completion of all admission requirements does not guarantee an interview or admission. A personal interview will be granted to select individuals who meet all admission requirements by established deadlines. Applicants should obtain as much information as possible about the role of pharmacists and be able to articulate it during the interview process. Interviewers are interested in how well applicants communicate, their drive to be a pharmacist, and their understanding of the pharmacy profession. Completion of the personal interview does not guarantee admission to the WSU PharmD Program.
